Notes from the Rectory

Hi Everyone

We are now in the time of advent and before we know it Christmas Day will have been and gone.

We are looking at a very busy month again.  Carol services in each of the churches.  I am really looking forward to all five of them as each one will be different, not just because it is in a different church, but because each church has a different way of presenting the Christmas story.  Lawhitton will be traditional lessons and carols with its own twist Lewannick community carols is not at all traditional, Lezant is different again, North Hill will have a Callington band playing the music and South Petherwin service is in the Methodist Church this year.

There will also be the Christingle Services two this year.  One for the first time at South Petherwin and one at Lezant with Trekenner School taking part.

Then of course the Christmas Communion Services four on Christmas Eve and one on Christmas day with the added bonus of Christmas Café church style on Christmas Eve as well.  We round of the year with a New Year Reflection service at Lewannick.  Please do look at the dates, times and venues in the rest of the bulletin.

Of course, this month is not just about preparing services, Christmas tree festivals, food and drink.  This is the season of advent comes from the Latin word 'adventus' meaning 'Coming.' Advent begins the church year starting four Sundays before Christmas. The season of Advent has been set aside as a time when we should be preparing ourselves for the coming of our Lord Jesus for the second time. The colour used in our churches for this season is purple or blue, the colours also of Lent, for forgiveness and repentance.

Although at Christmas we are celebrating and remembering his birth we are reminded Jesus’ promise that he will come again, which he talks about in our reading for the first Sunday in Advent.

‘Then they will see “the Son of Man coming in clouds” with great power and glory.’ (Mark 13:26)

Amen

Love and Prayers

Prayer Diary for December - Suggestions for daily prayer
